Kindergarden Teacher Has Class Vote Out Disabled Child.

May 26, 2008 / by ekyprogressive

WTF?!? Here is an excerpt, you can read the whole thing here....

Wendy Portillo, a teacher in Port St. Lucie, FL,
decided to let her kindergarten class "vote out" a fellow student.
Alex, age 5, is in the process of being diagnosed with Asperger's
Syndrome. Alex was forced to stand in front of his class while each
classmate said what they disliked about him (including "disgusting" and
"annoying"). He lost by a vote of 14 to 2 and left the classroom.

The state attorney's office has concluded the matter did not meet
the criteria for emotional child abuse, so no charges will be filed.
The matter is now in the hands of the Port St. Lucie school district
and the Florida Department of Children and Families....

Anyone else think this is a crock of shit and she should never work with kids again?

I find this so bloody annoying. We had problems similar to this with our oldest son. I am so angry that this type of thing goes on!

Children with Aspergers have a low self worth as it is, and find it so hard to mix and make friends without this sort of behavior from teachers who should know better.

Aspergers is a very difficult situation, but still, what did this bone head teacher think? That if she could get a bunch of 5 year olds to agree the school would have him removed?! I could get them to vote her out I bet by similar margins, or to vote for perpetual recess, or chocolate cookies every friday. This is FAR from professional behavior.

That poor kid, this is inexcusable.

This is not just annoying. This is barbaric. The teacher should have a sign hung around her neck saying.... the ultimate in discrimination. She is a danger to the society. A danger to the children because she will influence them for having her kind of mental illness. Poor little child. In this day and age of finding means to protect the rights of a child, this lady is a virus... a bacteria.. a germ, a fungus that could contaminate the society. And the state attorney's office in Florida... a breeding ground of scumbags. I will not have second thoughts on pulling these people's pants in public and whipping their asses with bamboo stick laden with broken glass so they can learn their lessons. SHAME on them!

I don't know which was worse, that florida doesn't call that emotional abuse, or her actions in general..

Are you kidding me?  This is unbelievable.  Have they tarred and feathered the teacher yet?  And if not, why not?

It seems to me that this one Wendy Portillo has allowed a group of quasi-citizens (from a legal standpoint, children don't pay taxes and can't vote legally) to infringe upon the legally conferred right to public education guaranteed without segregation that Congress awarded back at the time of men and women like Dr. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks.  You can say that that was a race issue, but the line isn't that fine.  Any time one group of people obviates the right of a minority(a child with a learning disability) and the "powers that be" are aware and even in collusion, there is obviously a huge problem.  It seems that Ms. Portillo is the one who needs to be a member of the kindergarten class.  Let the child with Asperger's syndrome teach her.  Perhaps that would put her grievous misstep a bit more in perspective.

I don't think she needs to be anywhere near kids...Homeschool her, starting back at Kindergarten
